Rachel Kytonen

Rachel Kytonen :

Rachel Kytonen first met Roxie Karelis when Roxie joined The Refuge Network as their executive director in 2007. Rachel worked as a reporter for the Isanti County News in Cambridge and interviewed Roxie for a story in the newspaper. From their first meeting, they developed a connection,

and it was very evident to Rachel that Roxie cared deeply for her work and her passion of helping sexual assault survivors. Their professional working relationship over the years blossomed into a true friendship.

Because Rachel understood the important work of The Refuge Network, she often did a couple of news stories a year to help support their cause and bring awareness to The Refuge Network. Over the years, she was also able to interview the women living in the domestic violence shelter Black Dog Hill, who always told her, “I would not be alive today if it wasn’t for Black Dog Hill.”

After 20 years, Rachel left the Isanti County News in April 2022 and is currently the city administrator for the city of Braham. She joined the Board of Director for Roxie’s Hope in August 2022 and is honored to be a part of an organization dedicated to carrying on Roxie’s legacy.
