Rahya works with the Office of Traffic Safety for the state of MN currently as a grant coordinator. She has volunteered and worked with survivors of domestic violence for the last 25 years. She started her journey working with children living in domestic violence homes and continued her time working with women and sexual assault survivors.
Char lives in Mora, Mn with her husband George of 50 years. She has 2 children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Char’s daughter, Rahya worked for The Refuge Network as an advocate and she introduced her to the world of domestic violence.
Vicki Hurt would define herself as a purpose-driven individual that is guided by her faith. Her outside activities include serving as Vice-President of her Homeowners’ Association. She is recently retired and enjoying the extra time she gets to devote to her husband and large, extended family.
Trisha is Roxie’s daughter. She has grown up watching and learning from her mom how to advocate and be a voice for both victims and survivors of Domestic Violence her Trisha’s whole life. Trisha has an 11-year old daughter with special needs. The apple of Roxie’s eye - her three grandchildren.
Suzanne is a retired color consultant for a remodeling firm. Her initial contact with Roxie Karelis was in 2007, when she and her partner decided to donate their renovated farmhouse and ten acres to the Refuge Network for a domestic abuse shelter.
Adri lives in Mora with her husband Slade, daughter Ada and their 2 dogs.
She is a nurse and enjoys being home with her daughter and will be growing her family soon. She met Roxie in 2007 when Roxie joined The Refuge Network and was Adri’s mom, Rahya’s new boss.
Susan met Roxie in 2007, she was the new ED for The Refuge and she was a brand new Commissioner. She learned so much from her through the years as while serving on the Board for the Refuge. Roxie taught her so much in so many realms, she is forever grateful for the opportunity to work with her.
Jim met Roxie through mutual friends and co-workers. Jim could tell that she was a very genuine and kind-hearted person. He volunteered with the Black Dog shelter; and called Roxie my friend.
Jenny is a Realtor with Edina Realty in Forest Lake, Minnesota. She and her late husband owned and operated manufacturing companies in Minnesota and Wisconsin since 1974.
She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Forest Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Forest Lake Lions Club, the Lakes Area ACT on Alzheimer’s group, and the Forest Lake Economic Development Authority.
Rachel Kytonen first met Roxie Karelis when Roxie joined The Refuge Network as their executive director in 2007. Rachel worked as a reporter for the Isanti County News in Cambridge and interviewed Roxie for a story in the newspaper. From their first meeting, they developed a connection,
